Another Little Blessing

Congratulations, Chantel and Orlando.

I know this beautiful little girl will bring you endless happiness.

BTW, I had a hunch she'd make her grand entrance before the SuperBowl! ;-)

Not much info except for Cheryl's update in the comments to this post (thanks, Cheryl!), but it seems Margi and Koolaid have a cuddly-wuddly little baby to enjoy!

Little M is on his way!

From the looks of it, Margi and Koolaid's little Peanut will be here soon.
Margi, I went through the whole pre-eclampsia thing. It could be bad, but you're already way closer to your due date than I was, with just 25 days left on your ticker. =)
Brandon was born at 36 weeks and 2 days. I think Little M is fully cooked at this point, so this is a great reason to get him out of there!
I wish you as smooth an arrival as possible. I know I'm far away, but if you need anything, just let me know.

Birthday recap

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to wish the little one a Happy Birthday. He had a great time playing with his daddy all day long, and then having a little bit of a celebration at his Tata's (grandfather) house.
We took him to the doctor this morning for his wellcheck visit. He is in the 90th percentile for height, measuring 37-1/4 inches, and in the 90% for weight at 33 pounds. Quite a jump from not even making the chart at 2 weeks old. I guess it's true what they say about preemies catching up...has he ever!
He was very cooperative with the check up, in part because he was given play medical kit for Christmas and he's been practicing on us. He was very enthused when the doctor was to check his tummy, hear his heart and check his eyes, ears and throat.
He had two shots, and was a real trooper. He simply watched what the nurse was doing, after the first said, "that hurts", and cried a bit after the second and said, "no more shots". But the crying lasted less than a minute. We told him he was a big boy, and that he was very brave, and he smiled.
Here are a couple of pictures of him blowing out the candles on his cake this evening, with a little bit of help from his cousin Mikey. Thanks again for all the birthday wishes!

Happy 3rd Birthday, Gordi!

A few days ago, as I was driving home from a late night at school, I heard this song on the radio. I could not stop myself from crying. Some of those tears were of joy. You bring so much more happiness to our lives than we could have imagined. You are such a precocious little thing, always exploring, telling us and asking us about what you see around you. You amaze us every day.
Some of those tears were of sadness, though. I began to think of how quickly you've grown, and how I won't be able to spend but a couple of hours with you today because I'll have work and school until late at night. I want to tell you that it kills me to be apart from you while I'm at school, imagining what I might be missing out on, but I am making these sacrifices for you. Not only to set an example for you, but so that you know that we want to provide you with not just those things you need, but whatever you may want. I know you don't understand these things now, but someday you will. And I hope that the words of this song touch your heart when you're old enough to know what it means.
I love you, my little pumpkin. Happy 3rd birthday.

May the good Lord be with you
Down every road you roam
And may sunshine and happiness
surround you when you're far from home
And may you grow to be proud
Dignified and true
And do unto others
As you'd have done to you
Be courageous and be brave
And in my heart you'll always stay
Forever Young, Forever Young

May good fortune be with you
May your guiding light be strong
Build a stairway to heaven
with a prince or a vagabond

And may you never love in vain
and in my heart you will remain
Forever Young, Forever Young
Forever Young

And when you finally fly away
I'll be hoping that I served you well
For all the wisdom of a lifetime
No one can ever tell

But whatever road you choose
I'm right behind you, win or lose
Forever Young, Forever Young
Forever Young ,Forever Young

("Forever Young" sung by Rod Stewart, written by Bob Dylan)

You may have noticed a new addition over on the sidebar. The "Ya No Mas" logo has been added, a move that is long overdue. What is this?, you may be asking yourself. It is quite simply a movement started by fellow Babalu contributor, and dear friend, George Moneo, a sort of battle-cry for those suffering in castro's Cuba. It literally means "no more" but for these purposes it's more "I've had enough".
I linked to George's post when he thought up this great idea, but I never quite got around to adding it to the sidebar, mostly because all that html coding scares me. I still haven't figured how to make the image a link, but I'll work on that soon.

Better late than never, I say.

Viva Cuba Libre, y YA NO MAS!!

Thanks, CTG! If it weren't for you, I would have never gotten that link up there!

William Joseph Martin Joel

Last night, we had the great fortune of going to Billy Joel's sold out show, the first for his new tour. It was AMAZING! He opened with "Piano Man" and sang for two and a half hours non-stop. He included a lot of his early work from "Turnstiles", "52nd Street", "the Stranger", "The Nylon Curtain" and "The Bridge", and included a few of his major hits like "New York State of Mind", "I go to Extremes", "We Didn't Start the Fire", "You May be Right", and "Allentown". There were more, I just can't remember them all. The last three songs were "Only the Good Die Young", "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant", and Famous Last Words". As I sat there, I realized that I can't really pick a few favorites, much less one. They are all incredible songs.
This is the fourth time I see this wonderful showman. I've seen him twice with Elton John (INCREDIBLE CONCERTS!) and twice on solo tours. The man is amazing! I would say he's gotten better with age. He may not have the falsetto of his early days, but his voice is still clear and crisp, and he engages the audience. If I could, I'd go see him next week when he returns for a second show!

Here are a few shots I was able to take, using quite a clever technique with the zoom on my camera and my binoculars. Sorry they are so grainy, but we were pretty high up. And here's the review of the concert from the Miami Herald.

A meme from Margi

I must take a few moments from my chaotic schedule to answer this meme for Margi, since she tagged me last night, pretty much right before I was ranting about my anticipated schedule this next month. It's common knowledge that one cannot say "no" to a pregnant woman, unless one wants to become the recipient of a sty or two. (Love you, M!)

So here are five weird things about me:

1. I have had only two jobs, each quite long term. The first was at a clothing store. I began working a week before my sixteenth birthday, and I resigned when I was hired at my current place of employment. I have been with my current employer 11+ years. Yes, you read right: 11+ years. You just don't see that "nowadays", especially with my age group.

2. Before Brandon was born, I had a tendency of randomly quoting Disney movies when having conversations with others. Now I do it even more so, especially with friends that also have children. For example, a friend of mine and I, who I also happen to work with, will occasionally quote lines from "Finding Nemo" during our workday ("Just keep swimming, just keep swimming..").

3. I have an astoundingly good memory. I can remember names, phone numbers, addresses, passwords, coding used for my job, pretty much anything if I see it just a couple of times. I have even managed to pass some of my classes with A's and B's by simply listening to the professsors' lectures, and re-reading my notes a time or two. This trait did diminish a bit due to Maternal Memory Loss Syndrome cause by my pregnancy with Brandon, but it's still impressive the amount of information this little brain of mine can handle.

4. I have super-sensitive skin. When I was younger, I washed one body part with a certain soap, and I had an allergic reaction all over. The doctor said that if I had bathed with it, I probably would have died. I cannot do dishes too frequently because my hands become excessively dry and begin to chap. Not quite related to skin issues, but allergies, my throat pretty much closes up and I start coughing and wheezing if I am near clorox.

5. I have issues with white Tic-Tacs. There must always be a box of tic-tacs in my purse. I must have one at least once an hour, the dosage increases if I am nervous, anxious, or just plain bored. I am not a "two tic-tac" person, I eat them one at a time. I do not like either the light green ones or the dark green ones. They must be white. On occasion, I will have orange ones, but I will have a few at a time, like candy. I will still have white tic-tacs in my purse. I buy the six-packs, and when I am down to two of the little containers, I buy another six-pack so as to not run out.

I will not tag anyone because, quite frankly, I don't have time to check who's done this and who hasn't. If you'd like to participate leave it in the comments.

24 hours are not enough

Hey, everyone.
Posting may be a bit sporadic, as I have class after work every day this week and next from 5:30 until 9:30 in the evening. The good thing is, in two weeks I'll finish a course. The bad thing is, I won't have time to do much else but work and study for the 10 days.
The fun doesn't stop there, though. The spring semester starts on January 18th, and if things go well, we'll be closing on our new home either the last week of January or the first week of February. For those of you paying attention, that leaves me about two weeks, between work and classes, to pack this place up.
I'm exhausted already, just thinking about it...
Alright all, till next time, whenever that may be. I have to go read a bit for school, then hit the sack.
'Night, 'night!
