September 11

When I was a contributor on my uncle’s blog, I wrote a piece about my memories of September 11, 2001. On that 5th anniversary of those dreadful events, nine years ago, the wound was still raw. It’s been nine years since then, 14 since the Manhattan skyline changed forever. The wound seems like it’s healed. Sometimes, just for a moment, things seem normal. But they are not. Sometimes I wonder, what if it happens again? And where? Will we be safe? Will I lose people I love next time? ¬†And I know I’m not the only one. Our nation lost its innocence that day, and we will never get that back.

Check out my excerpt, and those of my fellow Babalu Blog contributors, here.

  1. Ay mujer, life has changed for us in the USA forever. Hoy BB was actually… melancholy- it was in the air. Don’t think we’ll ever fully forget that day, and I don”t think we should.
