Disney’s Planes takes flight, in theaters now!

Disclosure: I was invited to attend a pre-screening of Planes with a guest by Disney Pictures. All opinions are my own.

Disney’s newest animated 3D movie, Planes, soared into theaters this weekend. Brandon and I were invited to a pre-screening for the movie, and we both loved it! The movie centers around Dusty the crop-duster and his big dreams to become a racer. There’s only one small problem: Dusty is afraid of heights. But with some training from his friends Dottie, Chug, and Skipper, he works hard to be the fastest plane in Propwash Junction, and ends up qualifying for the Wings Around the Globe Rally.

Dusty is overjoyed that he gets to race along planes he idolizes. Dusty’s sweet disposition gains him a few friends among his racing peers, but Ripslinger isn’t willing to lose his title to a crop-duster. He does just about anything to stop Dusty from winning during the different legs of the race. With a little help from new racing friends El Chupacabra, Ishani, Rochelle and Bulldog, Dusty soars through the skies. Does he win the Wings around the Globe rally? You’ll have to go see the movie to find out!

Planes has an amazing ensemble cast, including the voices of Dane Cook (“Dusty”), Stacy Keach (“Skipper”), Brad Garrett (“Chug”), Teri Hatcher (“Dottie”), Cedric the Entertainer (“Leadbottom”), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (“Rochelle”), John Cleese (“Bulldog”), Carlos Alazraqui (“El Chu”), Priyanka Chopra (“Ishani”), Gabriel Iglesias (“Ned” and “Zed”), Roger Craig Smith (“Ripslinger”), Anthony Edwards (“Echo”), Val Kilmer (“Bravo”), and of course John Ratzenberger (“Harland”).

Disney’s Planes is rated PG, but is a family movie for all ages. Planes is not only funny, but deals with underlying issues likes friendship and kindness towards others, bullying, believing in yourself, and pursuing your dreams. There’s even a little bit of a love story involving El Chu and Rochelle.

From above the world of “Cars” comes “Disney’s Planes,” an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure featuring Dusty (voice of Dane Cook), a plane with dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer. But Dusty’s not exactly built for racing—and he happens to be afraid of heights. So he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit. Dusty’s courage is put to the ultimate test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible, giving a spellbound world the inspiration to soar. “Disney’s Planes” takes off in theaters on Aug. 9, 2013.

We also had the opportunity to attend an event at the Wing Over Miami Air Museum last weekend in anticipation for the movie. Disney Pictures was there with Planes movie posters, games, a magician, and much more. We were able to tour the museum and see the wonderful exhibits, including vintage aircraft and military planes. The really cool thing is that Wings Over Miami is an active flying museum, almost all the aircraft work and are flown regularly. This was the perfect venue to locally promote Disney’s Planes.

We loved Disney’s Planes, and definitely plan on going to see it again, since Matty wasn’t able to attend with us. Go see it, and let us know what you think! In the meantime, for more information about the movie, check out:
