Here’s the thing about good friends…

….sometimes you’re really blessed with a friendship that transcends time and distance. I’m lucky to have a handful of childhood friends that are tried and true. It doesn’t matter how long it’s been since we’ve seen each other, days or years, when the opportunity does present itself, it’s like no time has passed.

( August 1990 – awkward early teen years. Of course my eyes are closed due to the flash from my old 110mm film camera)

The boys and I spent the day with my dear friend Carlos, his wife, and their kids. (Wow, has it really been almost five years since we last saw each other?!) Our children got along splendidly and played nicely while we talked, and the two and half hours we were at their house flew by.

I’ve written before that the childhood moments I hold dearest, those of summers at the Hilyard Hotel, include Carlos and his family. It warms my heart that after so many years we are still such a special part of each others’ lives. My wish is that my children are as fortunate as I am to create such lasting friendships, and that when they are my age they are sitting there smiling, as I am now, at the happy memories those friendships end up creating, old and new.

“No lapse of time or distance of place can lessen the friendship of those who are truly persuaded of each other’s worth.”

  1. Okay, you KNOW Carlos must’ve been a great friend if he never teased you about your haircut back then. ;)

  2. Amanda says:

This particular hairstyle is nothing. I’ve got pics of some doozies…

Also, what you can’t see is the banana clip I’m wearing to hold back my hair. So 90′s.
