I was staring at the laptop, not sure what to blog about. I have to share my thoughts from SheCon, I have a giveaway I need to post, and tomorrow Matty graduates from Pre-K, so I wanted to share some thoughts on that. But I wasn’t sure where to start, writer’s block threatening me. And then, about 10 minutes ago, I got up to check Brandon’s homework, completed before I got home from work. It’s a worksheet on expository planning with the following prompt: We all have a special person in our life. Think about one person that is special to you. Write to explain to a reader, why this one person is special to you.
Here’s what he wrote:
My great grandfather is the best! he saved my brother’s life, gave me money, and he took me to the beach. Since he does great stuff for me I think he deserves a very special gift from me and my brother. He also deserves to live a lot longer.
I remember when my little brother got stuck in the bathroom. I thought I would lose him forever. I was crying for a long time. then my great grandpa got a knife and cut parts of the door knob. Then my great grandpa opened the door and my brother came walking out crying. I was happy, I had tears of joy. So that’s one reason why my great grandfather is super special.
Another reason that my great grandpa is special is that he gave me money. One day I went to his house. I told him I got good grades then he gave me a $20 bill. I was so happy because we were going to Target next. I got a video game. The game I got was Super Mario 64.
Finally, my great grandpa took me to the beach. One spring day I wanted to go to the beach. But my parents didn’t want to so my great grandpa took me. We had a fun time. When it was time to go I didn’t want to because I was having so much fun. When I got home I told my mom how much fun it was. Then she said we will go to the beach in the summer.
Now you can understand why my great grandpa is the best. He saved my brother, he gave me money and took me to the beach.
My heart is swollen with pride with these beautiful words. I can’t wait to share them with our beloved Papito.

That is awesome!!!
Brilliant writing runs in the family, I see.
So sweet prima.
He’s a little writer!
How cool.
I remember when I created this blog for him (and you) when he was born. My God how time flies!
