Easy microwave cleaning, without chemicals

That’s today’s SmartMamaLUTION, and it’s so easy! I saw Caroline’s post this morning, and made up my mind to try it when I got home today. Unfortunately, I did not get home untiil roughly about an hour ago due to a project at work. I gave the boys baths and put them to bed, and was going to get ready for bed myself when I remembered today’s task. I figured I could stay up a little while longer, and went ahead and followed the instructions.

1. non-plastic, microwave bowl
2. fill halfway with water
3. add lemon, lime, or orange slices. Add a bit of vinegar if you have it (I didn’t).
4. Microwave for 4 minutes
5. Wipe down areas with paper towel or dishcloth
6. Repeat if needed.

You can’t tell at first glance, but look carefully at the door. You’ll see how grime-y it was.

Here’s the inside, which I thought was dirtier than it actually was.

There’s the water and lime, hard at work.

Voila, clean door!

And clean microwave interior!

I went through the steps twice, as after the first go it still had a few dirty spots. I also didn’t have vinegar, so maybe one time is all you need if you add the vinegar.

I’m definitely going to do this every so often. It’s just so easy and smells good, and more importantly it’s one less thing I have to use cleaning chemicals for.

even easier: get a cotton tea towel, or a wad of paper towels, soak with water, add a dash of lemon juice or white vinegar, and microwave that for 2 minutes. Then you can also use the hot towels to wipe out the microwave. My favorite cleaning trick!
