Happy Belated Thanksgiving! You all know I’m a typical Cuban, always running late…

The morning of Thanksgiving was the Miami Turkey Trot. Unfortunately, when I went to register myself and the boys, it was sold out, but my sister and my nephews were registered, so we all went to cheer them on. My 8 year old nephew Mikey ran the 5K with my sister, and completed it in 28:39. He placed 552 overall. He is quite the athlete, we are so proud!

We had a great time with the family, late lunch at my grandmother’s house followed by dinner at my aunt’s house with my dad’s side. My sister, cousin, Claudia, and I went Black Friday shopping that evening/late night. The Black Friday shopping gods smiled upon us as we acquired most of what was needed. And I stayed on budget, for the most part.

Last Sunday, my little sister held the First Annual Titi’s Turkey Trot. She planned races for the kids, and we all brought something and picnicked for a few hours. It was so lovely to just spend time together, enjoying each other, the food, the view…I think we’ve started a new tradition!

In the spirit of the holiday, here are just a few things I’m thankful for this year:

I’m grateful for the health of my family and friends. One of my uncles is not doing well, but I’m thankful for his strength and his wonderful team of doctors.

Madison and her family were given amazing news on Wednesday, November 23rd: She’s in remission!

I’m thankful to my friend Geoff for coaxing me to take up running, and Claudia for being my running buddy. I never thought I’d run a half marathon, and I did just that a month ago, with another one coming up in January. Sometimes it seems a bit tedious to get out there, but I know the benefits far outweigh the occasional inconvenience.

I’m thankful for the men and women who sacrifice their lives every day for the freedoms we are afforded.

I’m grateful for the much-needed vacation we were able to go on recently (part 2 of my vacay posts is coming up), and the surprise trip to Puerto Rico in August.

I’m blessed with an awesome job, a fantastic work family, and the knowledge that we do amazing work and save people’s lives.

Matty has the same preschool teacher Brandon had, who we adore, and Brandon’s new teacher is a wonderful fit. I was apprehensive about the change last month, but it’s been quite a blessing.

What are you most thankful for?
