I was fortunate enough to be chosen as a participant in the Chevy Eco-Chic Tour this past Saturday. A collaboration between greenermiami.com and GM Southeast, the tour took us through a few Eco-friendly spots in town, all while taking turns driving the Hybrid Chevy Tahoe and electric Chevy Volt.
We left the Chevy dealership in Miami Shores around 11am, and I was the first one to drive the Tahoe hybrid. I absolutely loved it! Not only is it a smooth ride, but all the extras, from the leather seats to the fancy in-dash navigation system with On-Star, had me drooling.
Our first stop was the Ecoist gallery in the Wynwood Art District. Ecoist makes handbags and other accessories by upcycling materials from candy and snack wrappers. What is upcycling? It’s using materials that would otherwise be thrown away to make something new and valuable. Most of Ecoist’s items are made from wrappers for discontinued products, or perhaps they were misprinted and couldn’t be used. I hadn’t actually heard of Ecoist, but I had seen some of their work in magazines, and even remembered noticing their Mega bag in the Sex and the City movie. Seeing their stuff in real life is amazing, and their little purses are absolutely adorable.
Next was Uhma Spa, a wonderful organic spa in South Beach. Our group was given a tour of the facilities, during which co-owner Deborah explained how they used eco-friendly products during construction, as well as in their daily operations. We were all treated to massage mini-sessions, and all of us walked out of there feeling like Jello. I’m so going back there for a Vichy Shower someday…
Our last stop of the day was a late lunch at Metro Organic Bistro. I had the Chilled Avocado Soup to start, followed by the Burger with Fontina cheese and fries, and Creme Brulee for dessert. Thanks to my fellow diners I was also able to try the Tuna Tartare and the Gran Marnier Ice Souffle dessert. To say the food here was delicious is an understatement.
We then headed back to the dealer to pick up our personal vehicles, but not before the fabulous ladies from GM Southeast, along with Rebecca from greenermiami gave us some lovely goody bags with a couple of little suprises inside.
In related news: Guess what? I now own an Ecoist coin purse! 😉
What a fun experience. I’m so glad I was able to attend this event and learn a few things we can do protect our greatest resource. And I got to meet some great people, that’s always a plus!
