When we moved to our new home, one of our goals was to improve the landscaping, both in our front lawn and the backyard. There is one plant, however, that, when we do get around to it, won’t be touched. A red hibiscus tree grows right on the left corner of my house, in front of the driveway. Every time I walk by, I think of my Tia Mary. I know that this amapola tree is there because she is watching over me and my husband, and now our two children.
Today would have been her 72nd birthday. She died in 1996.
Val wrote this as a tribute to her in 2004, and reposted it last year. It’s not a happy story, but it’s about her, and that’s what’s important.
Felicidades, Tia Pompi. I miss you.
